Ken Nysse
ABOUT KEN NYSSE
Ken Nysse is a Havelock North artist and has been painting for about 15 years on a part-time basis. He lived the full-time corporate life for many years in sales, marketing and research but art and the desire to paint was always on the periphery of his day to day life. An opportunity to move back to Hawkes Bay from Auckland some 15 years ago, freed up time for him to focus on his art.
Ken is one of Quay Gallery’s long standing artists, having exhibited with the Gallery since it first opened over 15 years ago. He is drawn to the outdoors in his recreational activities such as skiing and biking and therefore has an affinity to the beauty of New Zealand’s landscapes and seascapes. Through his travels and interest in photography and nature, Ken discovers subject material for his paintings. Most of his works are ‘realism’ based, incorporating fine detail and using the ‘golden ratio’ built into the composition. Some other works are more free in application and may contain mixed-media - the very first painting Ken sold was of the Auckland skyline and Rangitoto, painted using a credit card and masses of colour. He joined the local art group “Keirunga Artists” to learn more and soon began winning local art awards, having in recent years won the People’s Choice award three years running. Ken is also a member of the Hawkes Bay Batucada (Brazilian Samba) band and thoroughly enjoys belting out rhythms on a huge Surdo (bass) drum twice a week and the public performances with the group. Though quietly spoken, his incredible landscape paintings are where Ken’s vibrance and personality really shine. Ken is a very accomplished and well respected Hawkes Bay artist – developing every day with every piece. We love the clarity of his landscapes. The imagery cleverly depicted within a wonderfully artistic perspective on the reality of the scene. |
